Our Executive Board is responsible for strategic decision-making and operational leadership, ensuring the Chamber delivers on its mission of advocacy, resources, and community growth. These leaders work closely with staff and members to shape programs, events, and partnerships that advance economic empowerment.
For twenty-five years Shakeb Kundiwala—widely known as Br Shak—has turned entrepreneurial grit into community-wide solutions. He opened his first cell-phone shop while still in high school, worked in the family business of hotel management, and has never stopped building businesses that close real gaps in the market. That same problem-solving instinct later landed him at Hewlett Packard Enterprise, where he became the youngest member of an elite transformation team advising Fortune 100 clients.
Shak has focused those skills on faith-centered finance. He founded HAYA Financial Strategies & Insurance Agency to deliver holistic, wealth strategies; partnered with New York Life to create the nation’s first Sharia-compliant whole-life insurance contract; invested in Shariawiz to make Islamic Wills, Trusts and Pre-Nups affordable online; and designed the Bayt ul-Mal “House of Wealth” blueprint now taught in mosques across California. Embracing Islam in 2012 deepened his commitment, giving him thirteen years of hands-on service to the Muslim community through financial education and youth mentorship at Tarbiya Institute.
As President and founding board member of the Sacramento Metro Muslim Chamber of Commerce, Shak leads data-driven initiatives that spotlight the community’s economic impact while cultivating the next generation of Muslim entrepreneurs. His guiding question—“Will this solve a real problem for my community?”—continues to shape the Chamber’s mission of empowerment, advocacy, and inclusive growth.
Joseph Avery III pairs the precision of a healthcare administrator with the drive of a serial entrepreneur and community mentor. Armed with a Master of Healthcare Administration from the University of Southern California, he manages high-volume outpatient clinics at UC Davis Health, where his process redesigns have earned him a reputation as the system’s “efficiency architect.” He also serves as Vice-Chair of the Muslim Faculty & Staff Association, advocating for faith-friendly policy and professional growth across the UC Davis campus.
Outside the hospital, Joseph builds pathways to financial stability. He founded The Avery Management Group LLC to convert overlooked properties into income-producing assets, and he launched Trellis Financial Technologies to tackle a different kind of disrepair—personal debt. Trellis’ AI-powered app guides users to eliminate liabilities, grow savings, and invest with Islamic-compliant discipline, making “financial wellness” both ethical and trackable.
Joseph’s commitment to service extends well beyond the balance sheet. A proud father, he volunteers as a lead youth mentor at Tarbiya Institute, where he channels his business savvy into lessons on entrepreneurship, budgeting, and civic responsibility.
As Treasurer of the Sacramento Metro Muslim Chamber of Commerce, Joseph safeguards the Chamber’s finances with the same diligence he brings to multi-million-dollar clinic budgets—and with the same guiding question that drives his work in fintech, real estate, and youth development: Did this make the Muslim community stronger and more financially secure?
